Giant Slides | On Saturday we decided to spend most of the day at the Landmark Centre in Carrbridge. In fact we spent the morning just going on the giant water slides there. These are dingys in which you sit in pairs and are then slid down a giant chute. Great fun (for officers too!). There was a competition to see which pair could manage the furthest along the slipway at the end. A boys team won, just pipped the staff efforts - I'll leave you to guess the winning pair. There is plenty else to do at Landmark of course. We climbed the high tower, walked the treetop walk and watched the steam engine in action. There was time to browse the shop as well. |
| Then we headed off back to Aviemore and gave the boys some free time to look around the shops in Aviemore. There aren't all that many, mainly climbing and outdoor shops. Then it was back to camp to get a BBQ fired up for the evening meal. We had burgers, sausages, chicken drumsticks, kebabs & salad. The staff did most of the preparation with Ewan being the BBQ boss in charge of the cooking. The BBQ area at Badaguish has a bothy as well so that if its wet you can sit inside and eat. There are some arm chairs and an open fireplace. A real home from home.

 Football ! |
At Badaguish there is an outdoor, covered sports pitch. It has a spongy surface which enabled even the more mature members of staff to manage playing sport for the whole evening. We played football and unihoc for hours until under the growing attack of the midge had to admit defeat and go inside. During it all though an experiment was carried out however to see which anti-midge solution worked best. From own brand products to plain Avon cream (the SAS preferred option apparently). The SAS option did work well as did the own brand of a well known Chemists. |

On Sunday, it was a glorious sunny day and we headed off to Loch Morlich for a trip out on some rowing boats. There was some splashing and most people had a chance to do some rowing with varying success. Rowing boat wars took place with splashing if you got too close. Some were stuipid enough to approach broadside and enjoy the full force of the splash an oar can make. We then had an ice-cream and relaxed at the beach hut. A few even ventured into the Loch - some by choice and others with the help of some friends. No names... Strangely some staff clothing ended up floating in the Loch as well !! Hmm I wonder why.

The Abseil Tower Complex | The afternoon was our adventure activity. An abseiling and zipwire session. Everyone was kitted out with harnesses and helmets and off we went. It was great fun but hot in the sunshine waiting your turn on the high tower. Later everyone was in the small pond by the BBQ hut. There are some seven monkey rings across it and several tried their luck to cross and failed. Only two managed to complete the crossing and naturally it was 2 officers showing the way, including the Captain who even has the video evidence to prove it |
So that was it, we packed up the tents and all the gear, loaded up both minibus and van and headed off into Aviemore for a chipper tea before travelling back to Aberdeen. A very enjoyable weekend camp. We'll be back in Aviemore again.
