Open Night 2002

44th Aberdeen Boys' Brigade
Annual Parents Open Night
2002

Our annual parents Open Night took place this year on Friday 10th May 2002. The evening went very well and was enjoyed by both those watching and those taking part. Our inspecting officer this year was our last Captain, Mr John Allan, and we were delighted to invite John back, 3 years since he retired as Captain. During the 3 hours parents and friends were treated to a display of drama, 'kids capers' and the horse & bars routines.

The evening finished off with the usual prize giving. This year we had the presentation of two Presidents badges. Click to read the Captains annual report.

Have a look below for a run down on what went on. Click on any picture for a bigger version.
On paradeWe had 3 staff & 19 Boys on parade, all very smartly turned out. We also had two NCO's parading the Company colours. Following the parade the platform party were introduced, including the OIC's from JS & AB and our Session Clerk and his wife. Also present was Mrs Pat Archibald, whose husband and father-in-law were both past Captains. Next was the first round of kids capers.

The first kids game was the balloon race. In this each person has a balloon tied to their leg. The object is to burst other peoples balloons while saving your own one. We invited kids in the audience to take part and everyone was split according to age group. What a laugh it was as everyone ran around trying to protect their balloons while trying to stamp on other peoples. Some were so good at avoiding being burst that staff had to step in with a pin to end the game.Balloon race !

Up and overAs usual we performed a demonstration of our horse and bars skills. This year the horse team were a bit low in members but what they lacked in numbers they made up in effort and put on a great display. Highlights included some high swallow dives. Similarly the bars team showed off what they could do in a display including a variety of exercises.

There must always be a competitive element to games and what better to demonstrate that than a tug-o-war. Two teams lined up against each other in various configurations. The audience were encouraged to cheer on one of the teams. Altogether now.....heave !!!!Up and over

Presidents MenThe highlight for the boys is always the prizegiving. This year we had the usual difficult task of deciding on the various trophy winners. Everybody, however, received a prize envelope with their badges & credits. Also for each boy a copy of our bi-annual magazine 40Four. There was also made a presentation to the four boys with a 100% attendance record. The final presentation was for our 2 latest Presidents Badges. This represents several years of badge work and attendance at a Grade 3 leadership course. Of the 2 Gregor has decided to carry on and work for his Queens badge.

Congratulations to all our prizewinners.
