Company Profile 2005

The 44th Aberdeen Boys' Brigade Company was formally enroled at Mannofield Church on 5th December 1907. The founder and frist Captain was Rev. W. Phil Gillieson.

We celebrated our 90th anniversary in 1997. The Company is still based at Mannofield Church in the west end of Aberdeen, which is in the North East of Scotland. As with most BB Companies we have 4 sections - Anchor Boys, Junior Section, Company Section & Senior Section. (Although our Seniors and Company Section meet as one. At the start of the 2004/05 session we will have 58 boys with 22 of those in the Company Section.

We are a young minded, progressive & active Company, taking part in many of the Battalion competitions (with some recent sucesses) and we are always trying out new ideas, games & activities. The average age of the boys ihas shifted towards the older age group this year as we have a larger number of Seniors. Some of them are taking part in the Seniors Challenge organised by Scottish HQ. We also have 7 Queens Badge candidates this year with 2 of them in the final stages. Although we are a traditional Company there is a modern streak within and although activities such as drill have been recently stopped. Bible class, horse & bars are still done and we now also have activities as diverse as rollerblade racing, remote control car skills & team building initative games.

We have a good and happy relationship with our Church, our Chaplain and the Kirk Session. The church has a new youth worker, appointed in 2001, and we enjoy working with him. The Company parades formally to the church twice a year on Armistice Sunday and for th YDS, a youth dedication service. Our Captain is an elder, and also a member of the Church Youth Committee so we are fully involved in Church life.
